Adding a subdomain to a cPanel account

Authors list

Micron21 website hosting plans provide you with the ability to create subdomains on your primary domain name.

Subdomains are a prefix that are added to your primary domain name (e.g. dev.yourdomainname.com) which allows you to have a secondary website without needing to purchase a second domain.

This can be useful for creating a copy of your website so that you can work on it separately before applying changes to your live website.

The following guide will walk you through the steps needed to create a subdomain through your cPanel account.

Method:

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Under the "Domains" header, select "Subdomains".

  3. Enter your new subdomain. This is what will appear to the left of your domain.

  4. Select the domain that this subdomain will belong to from the drop-down menu.

  5. Select the document root for this domain. This is where files for this domain will reside. By default, this will be a folder with the same name as your subdomain.

  6. Click on the blue "Create" button to finalise your subdomain.
